The Writers’ Center of Indiana Will Get You Writing

Do you know about the Writers’ Center of Indiana? If not, you should. It is an amazing community resource that supports writers and the writing community in Indianapolis. They offer programs taught by published writers – and they offer a little of everything – poetry, fiction, memoir, nonfiction, and more! The Writers’ Center of Indiana also works with schools, universities, social service providers and more to invigorate the community with supportive outlets for creativity.

Other exciting facets of this great organization is their annual Gathering of Writers and Readers which brings several Indiana writers together in a day-long event. The Writers’ Center also promotes Indiana work, provides information about writing, forges connections between local writers, and offers advice about the trade.

This spring, the Writers’ Center has some really fantastic classes like Drawing from the Well – a poetry writing class for beginners; One Story, One Day – A fiction-building course; Developing and Publishing Your Nonfiction Book; Making Memoirs, Making Sense; and many more.

Green Broad Ripple

Green Broad Ripple is making it their mission to “initiate change toward sustainability”. They also work to educate the community about going Green. Some of the organization’s projects include “Green Alleys”, “Urban Gardens” and “Recycling”. The “Green Alleys” project sees alleys as underutilized that could lead to better traffic options. Green Broad Ripple’s “Urban Garden” initiative takes city lots and turns them into vegetable oases. The very first garden was established in 2008 at 61st street between Guildford and Winthrop. And Green Broad Ripple works continuously to create full stream recycling on Broad Ripple Square. Whatever project GBR is working on, it’s sure to improve the neighborhood’s environment. Broad Ripple Spring Lawn & Garden Seminars

This spring, Sullivan Hardware & Garden Greenhouse will offer a a series of lawn and garden seminars. Jo Ellen Meyers, a gardening expert with more than 20 years experience, hosts three up-coming sessions. The first, “Eat Your Veggies” will be held on April 3rd from 10-11 am, and Meyers will provide tips on starting seeds, picking out plants, and growing vegetables in containers. Then on April 17th from 4-5 pm, Meyers hosts “Gotcha Covered”, a seminar on traditional and not-so-traditional ground covers. And finally, join Meyers on April 21st from 6-7 pm when she talks about adding long lasting color, texture, and fragrance to your landscape with perennials at the “Go to Pot with Perennials” seminar. Get your garden growing with a little help from Sullivan Hardware & Garden Greenhouse.
